Projects
The architects and engineers have estimated the cost to restore Salem school to be approximately $400,000. The Salem Historical Society has determined to complete the projects in phases.
Phase One
Phase one will include the cost of engineering and architectural designs from firms who specialize in historical preservation. The costs of phase one will also cover foundation stabilization, select demolition on the property, and drainage improvements to keep the building from deteriorating further. It has been estimated that the cost of Phase one will be around $50,000.
Phase Two
Projects for phase two will include repairs to the roof, chimneys, and gutters. It will also include brick and masonry work on the exterior of the building. Windows and doors will be replaced and repaired during this phase as well. The cost estimate of phase two will be approximately $70,000.
Phase Three
Phase three will be both the most extensive and the most expensive. During this phase, the interior of the building will be finished and furnished. ADA restroom facilities will be added. Kitchen facilities, electrical, plumbing, and the HVAC systems problems will also be addressed during phase three. The fire escape, parking lot, and landscaping will complete phase three and the restoration of Salem school. The estimated cost of phase three is around $270,000.
