Salem School

Salem School was established in 1914; the culmination of a community wide effort. By the 1940s school students were moved to Macon; thus ending classes at Salem. In 1953 the building became a community center until the 1970s. Since then Salem School fell into a gradual decline. In 2011, the Salem Historical Society was created and purchase the school. And now we are tasked with the responsibility of restoring the school building.

Our Mission

It is the intent of the Salem School Historical Society to restore, refurbish, and maintain Salem School. Restoration will be to the degree that the building may once again be a vital part of the Concord/Salem community: a gathering place for community activates such as, weddings, birthday parties, community suppers, and educational classes for the community.

What We’ve Achieved

  • A French drain has been created around the building to stop further erosion.

  • Landscape improvements have been made such as clearing unwanted shrubbery from the property.

  • Salem Historical Society is now a 501 c 3 entity making all contributions to the organization tax deductible.
